Today we started another day waking up to the sunrise with a heavy breakfast that consisted of crepes with Nutella, eggs, potato, and porridge. We started our trek at 8am and hiked from 12,600 feet to 15,000 feet and stayed together as a team. “Poley poley” is the way to keep going and make it. Meaning slowly and step by step. We entered into the 4th climate zone in Kilimanjaro which is the alpine desert. Very little grows here and not much animal life. Our “soldier” porters came to collect our backpacks and helped us up to Lava Tower. We stopped at Lava Tower to have lunch at 15,000 feet to acclimate. The highest I have ever been. You can feel the air getting thinner. My breathing has gotten heavier but it’s not difficult to breathe but you can tell you aren’t at sea level anymore. Lunch consisted of pizza and stew. Weird combo but out here it’s delicious and you just eat what is given to you.
