Made it to Shira 1 camp! According to our guide this was the toughest day until summit night 😬 we finally got a view of Kilimanjaro right before dinner. Although we have lucked out with sunny weather, it’s usually covered in clouds. Been learning some Swahili on the way talking to our guides and the porters. The way of the mountain is “Poley Poley” which means “slowly slowly.” The best way to make it to the summit. At the end of our hike today we had “soldiers” they’re just porters who have been specifically assigned to us and at the last 10-15 minutes of our trek they meet us and take our hiking bags from us and wear them while walking us the rest of the way to the camp. They truly just take care of you and won’t take no for an answer. At night because there is no light pollution we saw the stars which www absolutely stunning under Kilimanjaro.
