day is a national holiday in Rwanda. Every last Saturday of the month, all businesses are shut down from 8am-11am and all citizens from the age of 16+ are required to participate in community service of cleaning the streets of Rwanda. Kigali, the capital city, itself is very clean and it’s because of this holiday every month and the city workers every day cleaning Kigali. It is part of keeping peace and building community within Rwanda.
I went out to coffee again as this coffee place, Question Coffee, has the best coffee. Afterwards I walked to Imbuga which is a car free zone within the city. It was a big disappointment. A complete tourist trap. It said they’d have local venders and total lie. Didn’t spend long there. That was the first big touristy place I went to here in Rwanda. Other than that no where else is that touristy which is actually a nice relief to be able to enjoy the local neighborhoods instead.
Tonight, Amy (owner of the place I’m staying) lent me one of her friends to hang out with tonight. They took me to this neighborhood with all these amazing restaurants and bars that have music. We got Asian fusion food to start and ended at Boho an Afro-fusion restaurant with a rooftop bar. It was nice to actually hangout with someone who was local and could show you the spots to be as a local. Tomorrow I am off to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda for a new adventure in a new region of Rwanda !
